Armed with a colourful repertoire of songs by the legendary American music icon, Quebec City’s L’Orchestre d’Hommes–Orchestres, is reinventing the music concert genre for the stage—this is ‘music that can be seen.’ Using nearly 100 objects and invented instruments, they hammer and caress the tunes of Tom Waits in madcap scenes of unbridled energy. In this powerful tribute the performers remain faithful to the spirit of his work, while opening his music to new possibilities and reinterpretation.
Beginning as a music ensemble in 2002 in Quebec City,L’Orchestre d’Hommes–Orchestres (The One Man Band–Band) has evolved into a makeshift inter– disciplinary workshop. Using everything and nothing to make music, the group finds offbeat solutions to reinvent virtuosity.
LODHO also takes an oblique look at the notions of performance and presence of the actor; its raw productions create disarming imbalances and direct, unassuming connections with the audience.
…as a stand–alone tribute, this hits the mark.
