THE GOLDEN MEAN (LIVE)
by Compagnie Marie Chouinard (Montreal, QC)
Sept 13 – 17, 2011
Theatre Junction is thrilled to present the return of Compagnie Marie Chouinard with her new work ‘THE GOLDEN MEAN (LIVE)‘. First performed in Vancouver as part of the 2010 Winter Olympics, THE GOLDEN MEAN (LIVE) is an erotic, avant–garde, humorous and deeply human work by one of the world’s foremost visionaries of contemporary dance.
A stunning performance that seems to come from another world, THE GOLDEN MEAN (LIVE) brings an acuteness of sensory perception, opening our imaginations in serene and unprecedented ways.
The Golden Mean Live is another in a long line of challenging and visually arresting pieces. Silly and profound, chaotic and expressive… a wonderful 80-minute oddity.
The Globe and Mail
A fixture on the world’s major stages and festivals, Compagnie Marie Chouinard has earned a reputation for unparalleled originality, creating contemporary dance pieces of astounding beauty and imagination. Each new work is an odyssey through the history of humanity, while avoiding the chronology or linearity of a narrative. In work stripped to its bare essence, a theatrical, quasi–operatic effect is achieved, the elements of ‘living art’ brought to the forefront through her imaginative composition and staging.
Previously Theatre Junction presented bODY rEMIX_ gOLDBERG_vARIATIONS (2006), The Rite of Spring (2008), and Orpheus and Eurydice (2009) and has developed a major following for Compagnie Marie Chouinard in Calgary.
Contemporary dance at its best, The Golden Mean (Live) was funny, outrageous, rude, theatrical, and gorgeous to look at.
