Theatre Junction GRAND is a not-for-profit organization that founded Calgary’s culturehouse for multidisciplinary live art. Since 2006, the theatre has become a centre for creation, presentation, and dissemination of contemporary performance from Calgary, Canada, and around the world.
Theatre Junction GRAND hosts the artistic work of Mark Lawes, the theatre’s founder and Artistic Director. Lawes creates new work in Calgary with an international multidisciplinary company of artists.
Theatre Junction GRAND is a space to think collectively and to activate the individual as a participant in a vibrant society, where the artist and the spectator converge to bring the theatre to life and make apparent its diversity, vitality and necessity.
Theatre Junction GRAND is a crossroads for the exchange of art and ideas. We are “the junction” where people, art forms, and ideas converge to cultivate a sustainable and meaningful cultural landscape in the city of Calgary.
Creation: Theatre Junction GRAND supports the creation of new work. Theatre, dance, music and media art cross each other in a search for new languages and forms.
Presentation: Theatre Junction GRAND presents local, national, and international creation-based artists in theatre, dance, music and new forms, providing a national and international context for contemporary live art in Calgary.
Dissemination: Theatre Junction GRAND is committed to tour new work created at Theatre Junction to Canada and the world.
