Crystal Pite (Vancouver)
Co-presented by Theatre Junction and Springboard Performance’s Fluid Movement Arts Festival
Oct 17th – 20th, 2012 8pm
In her new dance piece based on motifs from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, award-winning Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite stages a game of revenge and forgiveness, reality and imagination. Pite explores these motifs in two contexts: a maquette of Shakespeare’s island as a metaphor for isolation, captivity and desire, and a nostalgic cityscape that evokes longing. Integrating stunning visuals, projection and an original score, The Tempest Replica is a testament to Pite’s skill as an image-maker and storyteller of rare distinction.

“There are few choreographers of Pite’s generation who can create such a world of invention with just seven dancers and an empty stage.” – The Guardian
