Every year, six promising emerging creators, who are exploring different aspects of theatrical form and performance, are selected to be artists–n-residence at Theatre Junction and included in the TJLAB Sessions. For the selected artists, the program consists of three one-year phases of discovery, incubation and creation. Mentorship, guidance and resources are provided to the artists with the goal of realizing a new piece of work to be presented publicly.
THE THREE PHASES OF TJLABS SESSIONS
1st Year: Discovery
Three to four artists are selected and offered a one-week residency in Theatre Junction’s Studio under the guidance of an artistic company member. The first phase, Discovery, is meant to help the artist develop the seed of their research at a very early stage. A public presentation of the work in progress takes place at the end of the week and the audience is encouraged to provide feedback to the artist to continue the growth of their research.
2nd Year: Incubation
One or two artists from the Discovery program can be selected for a two-week residency in Theatre Junction’s Studio under the guidance of an artistic company number. The second phase, Incubation, is to fortify and more strongly develop the foundations laid out during the Discovery phase. A presentation of the work in progress takes place at the end of the two weeks, and again the audience is encouraged to provide feedback to the artist to continue the growth of their research.
3rd Year: Creation
Based on the progression and assessment of the work, one artist will be selected from the 2nd year program. This artist will benefit from the full creative and technical support from Theatre Junction to develop a new creation.
